“I would highly recommend TASC to anyone.”

Michael, Paramedic, Northamptonshire

Michael contacted TASC after his leg was badly injured when he was assaulted during a callout. To support his recovery, we provided funding for him to receive a two-week residential rehabilitation treatment programme at the Fire Fighters Charity treatment centre. Michael is now back at work and has since become a TASC Volunteer. Here’s Michael’s story:

‘‘Three years ago, I was injured in a hit and run incident when I was assaulted by a driver under the influence of alcohol and drugs. As a result of the attack, I sustained multiple fractures in my right leg which required surgical fixation using an intramedullary nail and four screws.

Since then I have continued to suffer leg pain, and an array of emotional turmoil, but I was always determined to not let it beat me. I had further surgery on my leg a few months ago and to help my recovery, TASC provided funding for me to attend the Fire Fighters Charity treatment centre for a physical rehabilitation programme.

The centre is fantastic and my personal treatment programme included hydrotherapy, physical therapy, circuit training, workshops for healthy living and mental wellbeing sessions.

This opportunity allowed me to consolidate the information provided in previous physiotherapy and counselling sessions. The individualised programme and one-to-one support however ensured rapid results in a supportive environment with others on similar journeys to recovery.

The blend of physical and psychological/emotional rehabilitation was empowering and has 100% made a difference. Therapy is an on-going process that becomes part of everyday life; I would highly recommend TASC to anyone.’’
