TASC, The Ambulance Staff Charity, has given a major thank you to the organisers of the annual Trauma Care Conference after it was provided with a free stand at the prestige event.

The 18th International Trauma Care Conference took place at the Yarnfield Park Training and Conference Centre in Stone, Staffordshire, from Wednesday 15 March to Saturday 18 March, with TASC afforded a stand over the whole of the four days.

The Trauma Care charity was founded just over 20 years ago to address the need for commonly agreed standards of best clinical practice in the management of trauma through education, research and publishing. Membership is open to doctors, paramedics, nurses, and therapists.

Each year, 17,000 deaths occur in the UK as a direct result of injuries which also lead to 720,000 hospital admissions and six million visits to emergency departments.

The Trauma Care Conference, which attracted more than 1,000 visitors over the course of the four days, brings together a range of distinguished speakers from across the various specialities and professions in order to share expertise.

The event is split into a number of themes which this year included the UK Disaster Response Programme, Trauma in the Austere Environment, The Management of Pain in Trauma, Injury Prevention, Trauma in the Elderly, and a series of specialist programmes ranging from Trauma Critical Care and Trauma in Children to Orthopaedic Trauma and Rehabilitation.

TASC Trustee Carl Ledbury, who is a member of the Trauma Care Council, said:

“This was a case of one charity helping another. The TASC stand was very well received and there was a lot of interest in the work that it does over the course of the event.”

The TASC stand was able to raise awareness of the services which it offers to all ambulance staff and their families, present and past, in time of need. The event was also an opportunity for The Ambulance Staff Charity to reach out to people interested in supporting its work.

Jean Hayes, Director of Charity Operations at TASC, said:

“We would like to thank organisers of the Trauma Care Conference for providing us with a stand and for all of the support we were given during the event. We also want to give a big thank you to all those people who attended our stand and showed an interest in the work that we do and the support we are able to provide.

“We were delighted to be among the exhibitors at the conference as events like these are very important in helping to raise awareness of the services we offer to those who may need our help or who wish to support us.”

Visitors to the TASC stand were able to pick up information about the charity’s work. At the same time it also recruited new supporters, sold merchandise, and engaged with a number of suppliers with a view to gaining their support.
