TASC Enjoys National Rescue Day After Invited To Attend

Members of TASC, The Ambulance Staff Charity have been reaching out to ambulance personnel and the general public during a national event aimed at showcasing the work of the emergency services.

TASC Vice Chair Gordon Enstone and staff members Jean Hayes and Angie Crashley attended the Rescue Day which took place at Lake Country Park in Crowle, Lincolnshire, on July 8. Additional support was provided by TASC volunteer Elaine Clarke.

They were invited to attend the Rescue Day by East Midlands Ambulance Service, and met EMAS acting Chief Executive Richard Henderson and Chair Pauline Tagg MBE during the event.

TASC operated a stall throughout the day which offered information and material about the charity, as well as the opportunity to sign up as a Supporter. There was also merchandise for people to buy, plus a lucky dip which attracted lots of children.

A spokesperson for TASC, which collected around £300 on the day, said:

“This was a really important event for us to attend and we are very grateful to East Midlands Ambulance Service for their invitation. We were able to raise awareness amongst both ambulance staff and the general public about the valuable work we do in helping past and present members of the ambulance community and their families.”

Rescue Day, which was cancelled last year due to heavy rainfall, began in 2008 to showcase the vital work carried out by the emergency services and for the general public to engage with the Police, Fire and Ambulance services and others. The emphasis on this year’s event, which raised funds for emergency services and local community related charities, was community engagement with numerous organisations in attendance.

A spokesman said:

“The purpose of Rescue Day is to bring together as many of our rescue services as possible in one place to demonstrate what they do and how they do it. Raising public awareness on safety issues such as the dangers of open waters, road safety, fire prevention, and drink/drug driving, combined with an interesting yet fun day out, is the aim of this special day. People also have the opportunity to publicly engage with the Police, Fire, Ambulance, Air Ambulance, Search and Rescue, Coastguard, Water Rescue and many more.”
