Asha’s Breaking Point: TASC supports Coronation Street’s powerful storyline

TASC was proud to support the Coronation Street team in developing an upcoming storyline focused on Asha Alahan (played by Tanisha Gorey), a student paramedic whose journey highlights the emotional and psychological pressures faced by those starting out in the ambulance service.

The storyline has run over the last two months and has offered a raw and emotional look into Asha’s experience as she navigates the devastating realities of her role — from traumatic callouts to racist abuse — leading to a powerful depiction of her reaching breaking point.

To ensure the storyline was as authentic and sensitive as possible, Coronation Street worked closely with TASC’s Wellbeing Support Team, who provided insight into the real-life experiences and challenges faced by student paramedics.

Storylines like this play a vital role in raising awareness and breaking down stigma around the pressures ambulance staff can face – especially those who are just starting their careers. We’re proud to have contributed to a storyline that highlights both the importance of support and the strength of those working on the frontline.”

Since launching the Ambulance Staff Crisis Phoneline, TASC has supported 1,068 people in crisis or at risk of taking their own life — including 15 student paramedics.

In 2025 alone, TASC has already supported 785 ambulance staff, with:

• 67% receiving mental health support

• 31% receiving financial advice and support

• 2% receiving physical rehabilitation

(Of those, 21 were student paramedics.)

TASC remains committed to supporting the mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing of the UK’s ambulance community and is always open to working with film and television productions to ensure portrayals of ambulance staff are realistic and responsible.
