TASC has joined forces with mental health solutions organisation, OurPulse, to offer their mental health app and wellbeing tool to TASC clients at the beginning of their recovery journey with the charity.

TASC is a national charity dedicated to providing independent and confidential support to the UK’s ambulance community when they’re struggling with their mental, physical or financial wellbeing. Since launching in 2015, mental health has been the charity’s most in-demand service every year, accounting for 4 in every 5 interventions they provide.

Angie Crashley, TASC’s Wellbeing Support Manager, said:

“At TASC we’re always trying new things to provide more and better support to our clients, and we’re incredibly hopeful that OurPulse will become a great addition to the host of resources we have to support our lower-risk clients who are waiting to start their counselling journey with TASC.”

OurPulse is a mental health first aid organisation that offers training, consultancy services, and mental health apps. The OurPulse app provides TASC clients with a host of supporting information and wellbeing guidance while simultaneously providing TASC staff with the ability to monitor client’s progress.

One particularly innovative feature of the technology is the quick fortnightly check-in survey which enables users to rank their current wellbeing and emotional state. If a user’s wellbeing worsens then an alert is sent to TASC to make contact, and if necessary, provide immediate support.

Angie continued:

“Our limited charitable funds and increasing demand mean that we have a waiting list of people with a lower-risk mental health need. Up until now, we have only been able to check-in with those on our list every few weeks or so. With this new app, our clients will have access to a host of evidence-based support modules to support their self-care and TASC staff will be able to access more immediate data on our clients’ wellbeing, and our in-house counsellors can proactively make contact to provide interventions, safeguarding advice or coping strategies.”

Dave Swann, OurPulse creator and Chief Operating Officer, said:

“OurPulse is dedicated to transforming mental health support and is striving to help create a zero-suicide society, through providing innovative solutions such as our proactive monitoring service SENSE. When individuals complete the OurPulse SENSE surveys, we are able to observe, report on and support the collective group while keeping a watchful, and reactive eye on all respondents. This enables early detection and intervention to support individuals before they reach a crisis point. We are truly grateful and proud that The Ambulance Staff Charity have partnered with OurPulse to provide SENSE to their clients.”

Karl Demian, TASC’s CEO, said:

“At TASC we pride ourselves on being bold, agile, and responsive to our client’s needs. We’re known throughout the sector as an independent and confidential source of support for the ambulance community, which is why so many people come to us for help. However this also means that demand is much higher than what we can provide in our current charitable funds. So, I’m incredibly pleased to begin working with OurPulse on this trial to provide additional support to our clients while they wait to begin counselling with TASC.”

As an independent charity, TASC receives no support for their core services from NHS ambulance trusts, relying solely on the generosity of the general public to deliver their life-changing support. Due to tight charitable funds, there are over 85 people currently on TASC’s waiting list for mental health support, and the number is growing.

The charity has launched their urgent Green Monday appeal to raise £20,000 to help provide more support sessions, tackle their waiting list and provide crucial care so that no UK ambulance worker suffers alone. The peak of the urgent campaign is taking place on the 31st March 2025 with TASC’s Green Monday event.
