Reverend Kevin Charles, who has been the full-time chaplain at East Midlands Ambulance Service since 2015, has joined TASC The Ambulance Staff Charity as Chaplain and Pastoral Adviser.

The Reverend is a long standing supporter of TASC, which looks after present and past ambulance staff in times of need, and we are delighted that he is joining us to support and enhance our work with ambulance staff and their families.

Rev. Charles, a former paramedic who was ordained a priest in 2009, will work two mornings a month in his new role alongside TASC staff.

He said:

“This is a very similar role to what I provide for the East Midlands Ambulance Service where I am looking after the pastoral needs of existing ambulance staff. This role will also have the additional element of supporting the hard-working team at TASC. A bit of caring for the carer, as well as being there for ambulance staff past and present.”

Rev. Charles added:

“Ambulance staff give so much of themselves to the community, but who comforts and supports them when they need it? Having been with the ambulance service for 38 years, including as a serving paramedic and a manager, I can absolutely relate to what today’s ambulance staff do – on the road, in the control room, and all those who are supporting services to stay on the road and deliver patient care. The role of Pastoral Adviser is blossoming in many ambulance organisations and to me it’s key. You don’t have to be of faith to understand how important it is that staff have someone looking out for their pastoral needs.”

The Reverend, who conducted this year’s service at the national Ambulance Memorial ceremony on September 13, said he was “very honoured and privileged” to have been asked to take on a pastoral role at TASC.

Sue Noyes, TASC Chair, said:

“I am delighted to have Kevin on board. I know he will bring his own unique style and experience to enrich what we do at TASC. I know he already has his ‘To Do’ list.” We are all looking forward to working with him – welcome Rev. Kev!”
