TASC, The Ambulance Staff Charity has thanked the generosity of people attending a special concert in support of the emergency services in Nottinghamshire after they collectively donated almost £500.

The Emergency Services Carol Service is held annually at Southwell Minster in Southwell, Nottinghamshire, with the event jointly organised by the chaplains of the local ambulance, fire and police services.

During the latest event, held in December last year, the collection was in aid of TASC at the request of Revd Kevin Charles, the Chaplain and Staff Support Lead at East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust. And senior representatives of TASC recently visited Southwell Minster to receive the cheque.

Revd Kevin, who was a former paramedic with EMAS, said:

“Every year we have an Emergency Services Carol Service at Southwell Minster when each of the three emergency services take it in turns as to what charity we are going to support.

“Last year it was our turn so I chose TASC. All the donations collected during the service go to the nominated charity and we managed to collect £491.47 in aid of TASC. It’s our way of helping to support our ambulance colleagues in times of need.”

East Midlands Ambulance have been involved in the annual Christmas carol concert for the last six years. The three chaplains of the ambulance, fire and police services in Nottinghamshire all play a part in organising and conducting the service, which featured the local Bestwood Male Voice Choir and the Nottinghamshire Police Band. This December it will be the turn of the fire service to choose a charity close to them.

Revd Kevin, or Rev Kev as he is better known by his colleagues, has been the chaplain at EMAS for the last three years. He added:

“I have been with EMAS for 38 years, both as a frontline paramedic and also a manager, prior to being offered this role as chaplain/staff support lead. I was previously a lay leader with the Church of England and was ordained several years ago so, for me, it was a natural fit to become chaplain.”
