Are YOU Up For The Challenge Of TASC’s Inaugural Cycle Ride?

People across the UK are being urged to get on their bikes and take on one of a series of cycle rides in aid of TASC The Ambulance Staff Charity.

TASC is urging cyclists to choose from one of six stages between Manchester and Brighton from October 1 to 6 and, in so doing, raise vital funds to help support present and past ambulance staff and their families in time of need, both within the NHS and independent sector.

The first stage of the event is on October 1 with a ride of some 80 kilometres from Manchester to Sheffield, with part of the course involving hilly roads that offer spectacular views of the Peak District. Stage two of the bike ride involves a 65 kilometre stretch between Sheffield and Nottingham.

The third stage invites cyclists to ride 92 kilometres from Nottingham to Birmingham, with the route passing through the Black Country. Bike riders can expect a number of short, sharp climbs followed by a steady finish into Birmingham. Stage four involves the longest stage of all with cyclists having to pedal some 120 kilometres from in Birmingham to Oxford, skirting around the Cotswolds on the way.

The fifth stage sees a cycle ride between Oxford and London over a distance of 85 kilometres. Cyclists can expect a day of two halves, with challenging climbs over the Chilterns in the morning followed by an afternoon of urban riding as the route heads into the capital.

The final stage is 110 kilometres between London and Brighton. Riders will head out of London bright and early to avoid the worst of the traffic before making their way through the South Downs to the coast – with one final challenge awaiting them just five kilometres from the finish line.

“We’re really excited to launch this inaugural bike ride and hope that both ambulance staff and members of the general public will take part, which will help to raise awareness of TASC and raise funds for the charity.”

Each of the six stages of the bike ride are deemed suitable for someone with a good all-round level of fitness. Cyclists are advised that they should be comfortable undertaking long rides of up to six hours at a time. There is a registration fee of £49 to cover administration costs of the event. In addition, all cyclists are asked to raise a minimum of £250 in aid of TASC. TASC will provide all participants with a fundraising pack filled with tips and ideas to help riders maximise fundraising opportunities.

In return, the event includes the services of an experienced international cycle leader, a support vehicle and mechanical back-up, first aiders, a cycling jersey which should be worn on the day, route and navigation planning, snacks, lunch and a finishing meal, and the sense of achievement of having completed the ride and raised vital funds for TASC.
