TASC Taking To The Road During Volunteers’ Week

TASC The Ambulance Staff Charity is to embark on a whistle-stop tour of the country as part of Volunteers’ Week 2018.

Members of TASC will be busy travelling around England and parts of Wales visiting ambulance stations, bases, fleet services, Patient Transport Service hubs and ambulance trust headquarters between 1-7 June.

Starting in Cumbria, the tour will include visits in Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Yorkshire, North Wales, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, West Midlands, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Surrey, West Sussex, and East Sussex.

During the Volunteers’ Week tour TASC staff will be meeting existing volunteers to thank them for their support, as well as promote awareness of the charity and encourage others to get involved.

Marieanne Curtis, TASC Volunteer Coordinator, said: “Our volunteers are investing in an organisation which provides support for their colleagues in time of need. It’s amazing to see their dedication within the ambulance services across the UK and Volunteers’ Week is a perfect opportunity to acknowledge all our volunteers. On behalf of TASC, I’d like to say a big thank you for all that they are doing.”

One such valued volunteer is Andrew Farrar, a Community First Responder based in the East Midlands, who is a dedicated supporter of TASC and raised money for the charity by completing the ‘Pudding Run’ in Derbyshire last November. A keen runner, Andrew is hoping to participate in more running events later this year to raise awareness and funds for TASC.

He said: “My motivation to volunteer for TASC is to promote mental well-being within the ambulance service, who society expects to turn up, cope with and absorb the trauma of others. By promoting the work of TASC I hope that it can be OK to say ‘I am not OK’ among colleagues and there is also acknowledgement that even heroes need support sometimes!”
